Overview:
This training will present an overview of how children at various developmental stages perceive and
process grief and divorce and how play therapy can be beneficial to these children. Specific techniques
will be presented that can be used in individual, group or family play therapy.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the stages of grief in children
2. Learn how to use play therapy to assess a child’s understanding of grief and divorce
3. Learn play therapy techniques that can be applied to the treatment of grieving children and children
of divorce

The Presenter:
Pam Dyson, MA, LPC, is a child development expert, parenting coach, licensed professional
counselor and nationally certified counselor who specializes in play therapy at her private
practice in Ballwin, Missouri. She’s an adjunct professor at Lindenwood University, serves as
a mental health consultant to early childhood professionals and facilitates workshops at
conferences throughout the Midwest. Pam is the founder and director of the St. Louis Center
for Play Therapy Training.
