Q:  What steps do you need to take to become a Registered Play
Therapist?

A:  You must have...
  • Earned a masters or doctoral mental health degree from an
    institution of higher education
  • 150 clock hours of graduate level play therapy specific training
  • Two years and 2,000 hours of clinical experience
  • 500 hours of supervised play therapy experience that includes 50
    hours of play therapy supervision
  • Be licensed or certified by your state board of practice.

Q:  Is it necessary to attend Introduction to Play Therapy before any of
the others?

A:  There are no prerequisites. You may attend trainings in any order.


Q:  Will these trainings count toward certification in Play Therapy?

A:  Yes. The St. Louis Center for Play Therapy Training is an APT
approved provider. The CE hours you earn through the center can be
applied toward credentialing as a Registered Play Therapist. Additionally,
APT CE hours may be accepted by other mental health disciplines for
licensure purposes. Contact your state board for specific requirements.
